Paris: French Prime Minister Michel Barnier's government has collapsed after a no-confidence motion was passed in parliament. Out of a total of 577 members of parliament, 331 voted against the Barnier government. After the no-confidence motion was passed, Prime Minister Michel Barnier resigned from his post.
The controversy over the social security funding bill is seen as a symbol of this. French President Emmanuel Macron tried to pass the bill using special powers without parliamentary approval, which created a force against the government. In response to this, not only the opposition parties but also the people took to the streets.
Following the resignation of Prime Minister Michel Barnier, the opposition parties are pressuring President Macron to resign.
The ruling party has lost its majority in parliament, making it difficult to form a new government. This is the first time in 60 years that a French government has been overthrown.
As the political situation in France is currently dire, the public and international community are eagerly awaiting the next political steps.
